With the leaves changing colors and the temperature slightly slipping, it’s officially the fall season!

There are so many things to love about fall. Colors of leaves. Apple picking. Fall Sports. Cozy Sweatshirts. Planning Halloween costumes. Pumpkin spice...everything.

To celebrate the new season, we wanted to share our five favorite fall crafts that are fun for kids (and adults) of any age!

From Candy Corn Trick-or-Treat Totes to Watercolor Leaf Wreaths, your family will enjoy spending time together while working on these DIY activities. These crafts will keep your house warm with custom fall decor all season long.

Below are instructions for our five favorite fall DIY crafts. The Doodle Hog DIY Team designed these so that little artists and crafty kiddos of any skill level will enjoy working on them. Each craft is easy to make, full of fall colors, and best of all, there’s no wrong way to do them.

1. Candy Corn Garland

Materials

Technique

  1. Flatten a coffee filter into a circle on your Activity Plastic tray.
  2. Using a yellow NOYO gel crayon or yellow Dab and Dot Marker, color a large yellow ring around the edge of the coffee filter.
  3. Using an orange NOYO gel crayon or orange Dab and Dot Marker, color a orange ring inside the yellow ring.
  4. Use a white NOYO crayon to color the center of the circle.
  5. Cut each coffee filter into 8 triangles of equal size.
  6. Attach each candy corn triangle to bakers twine using clear tape, spacing them about 5” apart. Once all the candy corn has been taped to the bakers twine, your Candy Corn Garland is ready to hang over mantels, doorways, walls, etc.

2. Bright Winged Bats

Materials

Technique

  1. Cover your table/workspace with a waterproof covering.
  2. Use the Sharpie marker to color both clothespins black.
  3. To make the first bat, flatten the coffee filter into a flat circle. Select 5 colors of NOYO Gel Crayons and color any pattern on the coffee filter. You can also use your finger to blend the NOYO colors like pastels!
  4. To make the second bat, flatten a second coffee filter on your work surface. Select 3 colors of Dab and Dot Markers and use them to create a colorful pattern onto the coffee filter.
  5. You can spray this pattern with water to create a blended watercolor effect!
  6. After the ink dries, fold each colored coffee filter into fourths. Use the scissors to cut the edges to create the batwing.
  7. Unfold the filters to half and cut a 3” slit up from the center. Open the clothespins and insert the colored filters to make your bats. Use the all-purpose glue to add wiggly eyes to the bat.

3. Fall Hand Tree

Materials

Technique

  1. Trace your child's hand onto a piece of paper using a black Sharpie marker.
  2. Use NOYO Gel Crayons to color the inside of the traced hand to color the trunk and branches of your tree.
  3. Use the Dab and Dot Markers to create the colorful leaves of the fall hand tree. Use any combination of colors that inspires you!
  4. A Fall Hand Tree craft is a great DIY decoration, refrigerator art, table placemat, or card for friends and family.

4. Watercolor Fall Wreath

Materials

Technique

  1. Cover your table/workspace with a waterproof covering.
  2. Use the watercolor half pan set to paint fall colors on a sheet of 11” x 15” watercolor paper. Explore a variety of colors and watercolor techniques to create a unique color story.
  3. Once the paper dries, cut leaf shapes out of the paper. You can use a stencil or freestyle the shapes - each leaf should be approximately 3 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide.
  4. Cut the center out of a paper plate to form a ½ inch ring.
  5. Glue the watercolor leaves to the white ring, using all-purpose glue.
  6. Once the glue has dried, attach a piece of festive ribbon to the wreath so that you can hang it from a mantel, doorway, or window.

5. Candy Corn Tote

Materials

Technique

  1. Cover your table/workspace with a waterproof covering. Place activity tray and tie dye materials on the workspace. Use Soda Ash from Tie Dye Party Kit to pre-soak your tote bag.
  2. Gather the tote by folding accordion-style across the width and tightly secure two rubber ties. Choose the placement of ties knowing that the rubber ties indicate where the two colors meet.
  3. Place the tied tote on the activity tray. Use the Well Hello, Yellow dye from the Tie Dye Party Kit to color the lower segment of the tote bag.
  4. Use the Orange You Glad dye from the Tie Dye Party Kit to color the center segment of the tote bag.
  5. Turn the tote bag over and repeat the dye process.
  6. Once the bag is dry you can remove the ties then wash in warm water with a mild detergent. Now your Candy Corn Trick-or-Treat Tote is ready for use!
