Collection: Tie Dye Isn't Just For T-Shirts Anymore!

Tie dying t-shirts is one of our favorite DIYs because it’s so colorful, unique, and it’s an art project that you wear. But why stop at t-shirts?

The DIY process of tie dyeing can be applied to any natural fiber material made of mostly cotton, denim, and linen. Most clothing and fabric accessories that we wear are made of these kinds of textiles. Using our Tie Dye Party Kit, you can create various color combinations and experiment with different dye techniques on so many different items.

It’s such an accessible and versatile DIY that turns out different each time that you do it. You can tie dye new natural fiber clothing like sweatshirts and skirts to showcase your creative personality. But you can also tie dye previously worn clothes like shirts and shorts to breathe new life into them.

With so many colorful possibilities, it’s easy to understand why tie dye has become such a popular trend. Even celebrities like Beyonce, Reese Witherspoon, and Taylor Swift are getting in on the tie dye trend. And it’s not just for girls either.

You can make make a bold fashion statement by tie dyeing apparel like:

Don’t limit yourself to what you wear. You can brighten up your living spaces by tie dyeing fabric household items like:

  • Pillows

  • Bedding and sheets

  • Towels

  • Blankets

  • Tablecloths

  • Napkins

To help you start thinking outside the T-shirt box, we wanted to share our ‘Sic Stripes, Bruh’ tie dye technique that creates a fun striped pattern on socks.

SUPPLIES

PREP

  • Cover your workspace in a waterproof covering.
  • Prepare your fabric socks and bottles of dye.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Gather a section of your garment by accordion folding across the width or length of the fabric. Tightly secure the folds with a rubber band.

2. Repeat Step 1, adding another band every inch. For more stripes, space them more narrowly. If you want wider and fewer stripes, space the rubber bands farther apart. Each rubber band will be the line where two colors meet.

3. Choose your desired colors, and add dye to every section. You can get crazy with a whole rainbow of colors or make a simpler pattern with 2-3 repeated colors.

There’s endless possibilities to what you can do with tie dye. Plus we’re always working to create new tie dye color palettes, party kits, and DIY projects.

We can’t wait to see how all of your tie dye projects turn out. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #doodlehogmakers when you post photos on social media.

Happy Tie Dyeing,
